After nearly 150 years in Bond Street, Mayfair jewellers SJ Phillips has recently moved to a smaller space in nearby Bruton Street. As part of the ‘downsizing’, the firm has consigned 250 lots to Sotheby’s for a dedicated sale titled SJ Phillips: A Bond Street Legacy.
The October 18 sale will feature English and continental silver and antique jewels from SJ Phillips’ stock. Estimates range from £100 to over £200,000.
Among the highlights is this George III silver-gilt tray, an example of the work of London silversmith, James Young. It dates to 1791 and bears the coat of arms of John James Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Abercorn.
