Woolley & Wallis’ picture sale in Salisbury on November 29 will include this figure study by LS Lowry (1887-1976).
The 8½ x 6in (22 x 15cm) oil on canvas was acquired in 1953 by the vendor from Alex Reid & Lefevre Gallery in London.
Dating from 1949, it was painted at a time when Lowry was beginning to tire of his industrial Manchester scenes populated with his trademark matchstick figures, and had begun to paint the locals of the area.
Estimate £30,000-50,000.
