Born in India to English parents, Norie had a military education in India and from 1900-02 took part in the Boxer Rebellion in China as a captain in the international military coalition.

It was at this point that he assembled his collection of Asian art which is now being sold by his grand-daughter. It also features a Qianlong mutton fat jade bowl and Qing dynasty porcelain. The hair ornaments which date from the late Qing dynasty c.1900 are contained in a lacquer box decorated with a dragon chasing the flaming pearl, and are estimated at DKr100,000-150,000.
