Tyrolean crucifix thought to come from the now demolished covered bridge in Lucerne, Sold for £8000 at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood.
By family repute the 4ft 2in (1.16m) cross used to hang in the chapel at the Hofbrucke, the covered bridge, in Lucerne, which was demolished between 1834 and 1854.
Estimated at £500-700 at Exeter, the crucifix triggered European interest but was bought by a UK bidder at £8000.
