Contemporary ceramics specialists Maak will include a private collection of signature black and white vessels by British potter John Ward (b.1938) on May 15-18 in London. Tall Disk Pot (c.1990), a 16in (41cm) high piece pictured right, is made from stoneware and is described as in perfect condition. Estimate £3000-4000.
A case of pheasants by the notable Shropshire taxidermist Henry Shaw (1812-87) stars in Tennants’ sale of Natural History and Taxidermy on May 17 in Leyburn.
The case contains three types of pheasants: the Himalayan Monal, the Koklass and Cheer which are mounted within a faux painted rock ledge.
Estimate £2000-3000.
A cast of the biggest salmon ever caught with rod and line in British waters is going under the hammer at Bonhams in Edinburgh on May 23.
It was caught in October 1922 by Georgina Ballantine, who was fishing with her father on a boat on the River Tay in Scotland.
It took Ballantine two hours to land the 4ft 6in (1.37m) long, 64lb (29kg) fish – a record that 91 years later still hasn’t been broken.
The original fish was cast in plaster by PD Malloch and is held at Glendelvine Estate in Perthshire. This example is one of 12 limited edition replicas cast in fibreglass by George Jamieson in 1988 from a mould of the original plaster cast.

David Hockney’s (b.1937) 1998 print, Red Flower and Green Leaves, is among the later works to feature in 500 Years of Printmaking – Sworders’ first foray into print sales.
The 14 x 17in (35 x 43cm) handmade print is signed, dated and numbered 66/70 in pencil.
Guided at £3000-5000, it goes under the hammer on May 24 in Stansted Mountfitchet.
