Embossed with a classical female figure holding aloft a laurel branch, this silver medallion commemorates the 1923 Yorkshire Automobile Club Speed Trials – held across the miles of hard, flat sands at Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

The medallion appears to have been presented to CP Hare, who took part in the Committee Race on June 16, reaching a speed 46.22mph. The piece is guided at £200-400 in David Duggleby’s sporting sale in Scarborough on May 6.

Hampshire auction house Hannam’s has high hopes for this unassuming green trunk formerly owned by Field Marshal Alan Francis Brooke (1883-1963).

A senior officer of the British Army, Brooke began the Second World War as a commander of the II Corps in France before being promoted to Chief of Staff by Winston Churchill and becoming the prime minister’s foremost military advisor.

Brooke’s war diaries expose the clashes between the pair and attracted attention for their criticism of Churchill and for his forthright views on other leading figures of the war.

Consigned directly from Brooke’s estate, the 3ft 6in (1.07m) long two-door trunk is estimated at £300-500 in the May 4-5 sale.
