An oil by Victorian landscape painter George Augustus Williams (1814-1901) stars in John Nicholson’s picture sale on June 28 in Haslemere, Surrey.
Summer Showers, Rochester is a large 2ft 10in x 5ft (86 x 1.52m) beach scene depicting a girl and her dog with a sprawling Rochester in the distance. Signed and dated to 1861, the canvas has passed through London dealers Frost & Reed and is estimated at £6000-8000.

Around 50 works by the group of northern English artists known as the Staithes group will take centre stage at David Duggleby’s sale in Scarborough on June 23.
Pictured here is Frederic William Jackson’s (1859-1918) Mending Nets at Runswick Bay, a 3ft 4in x 4ft 10in (1.01 x 1.47m) oil on canvas signed by the artist and dated 1884.
Described by the auction house as an “important work of exhibition quality”, it was painted in the first year that Jackson visited Runswick Bay and has “laid unseen for many years”. Estimate £12,000-18,000.

Wilkinson’s Auctioneers, the specialist saleroom in period oak and vernacular furniture based in Doncaster, will hold its next sale on June 25.
A stand-out entry is this large 17th century bronze chandelier, which has survived in largely original condition, having not been adapted to take electricity.
Measuring 3ft 4in (1.02m) high, it features 12 zoomorphic scrolling branches set in two graduated tiers around an urn-knopped centre stem and large globe pendant below.
Estimated at £15,000-20,000, it has been consigned from a private collection in northern Europe along with a large 16th century German polychrome carving of the three Marys, John the Evangelist and the body of Christ, which is also guided at £15,000-20,000.
