Nic McElhatton, who was chairman of CSK for seven years, has signed on as a consultant to Roseberys to help guide new business development and advise on overall strategic direction.
Mark Bowis, CSK’s jewellery specialist, is joining Roseberys in the new, full-time permanent role of head of fine jewellery and watches. Roseberys has also appointed Fiona Baker, who led CSK’s interiors sales, as head of decorative arts, another new position, working three days a week.
The firm, led by managing director Ian Cadzow, had already initiated plans to grow as a mid-market saleroom – it had advertised for specialists in decorative arts and jewellery before the CSK closure announcement – and said it was capitalising on the availability of CSK talent.
“We have a five-year growth plan in place and the appointments of Nic, Mark and Fiona, who are great talents and senior, seasoned performers, will super-charge those plans,” said Roseberys.
The appointments come as CSK held its final auction on July 19, marking the closure of the South Kensington saleroom after 42 years.
McElhatton, who will also consult for Christie’s, starts at Roseberys in October on a two-day week basis.
“Ian has built a very successful and ambitious business, and brought together a very special and talented team. Vicki Wonfor, in particular, shows great vision. In many ways Roseberys reminds me of a smaller version of CSK,” he told ATG.
McElhatton is planning to host Roseberys auctions himself. “I love being on the rostrum and find the opportunity to take sales at Roseberys very appealing.”
The new hires mean that staff headcount at the West Norwood auction house will have grown from 23 to 28 by the end of 2017.
