Pre-dating Beatlemania by several months, this early concert poster above stars in Tennants’ toys, models and collectables sale on July 21.
The band played at The Royal Hall in Harrogate on March 8, 1963, just weeks after their first two singles had been released, and before their debut album Please, Please Me came out on March 22. The poster is being offered with an estimate of £1500-2000.
Prints by Lynn Chadwick, LS Lowry, René Magritte and Oskar Kokoschka are for sale in Roseberys’ online-only auction, closing on July 14.
Pictured above is Chadwick’s (1914-2003) Two Seated Figures on Green Stripes, a signed 21in x 2ft 5in (54 x 74cm) lithograph in green and black from 1972. It is one from an edition of 100 published by Erker Presse in Switzerland and bears its blindstamp. Estimate £400-600.
This James II silver two-handled porringer shown above is a highlight of Woolley & Wallis’ sale in Salisbury on July 18-19.
The 3in (7.5cm) high piece bears an SD maker’s mark, possibly for Samuel Dell, London 1686. Of circular form with scroll handles, it is engraved in the chinoiserie manner with birds and foliate decoration.
Estimate £600-800.

The collection of journalist, writer and caricature historian John Wardroper forms one half of Bloomsbury Auctions’ 150-lot sale of caricatures on July 13.
Focusing largely on the Regency and the Napoleonic era, Wardroper collected, among others, works by William Hogarth (1697-1764), James Gillray (1756-1815), Thomas Rowlandson (1756- 1827) and George Cruikshank (1792-1878).
Estimated at £800-1200 is a complete set of Hogarth’s A Harlot’s Progress issued in 1744 (plate shown above). It follows the six-stage story of a young woman who arrives in London from the country to start a new life but falls into prostitution.
