Bid to £5600 was a copy of the first Magic-Beano Book issued in 1943 following the demise of the Magic Comic after just 80 issues and featuring the same key characters. Described as being in bright, fresh boards and looking unread, it was reckoned the highest grade copy ever offered at auction.

Other Butler successes included splendid examples of the Dandy Monster Comic annuals of 1941 and 1943 at £3250 and £4750 respectively.

Among the single comics, a well-worn but very rare copy of what was only the second issue of Beano (1938) sold at £1220, and the first issue of Tiger made £910. Published in 1954, the latter came with a free gift of cardboard space gun and 5 (of 6) ‘Flying Saucers’.
