Phillips has made two new hires in the Americas from rival Christie’s as it continues to expand in the region.

Contemporary and Latin American art specialist Vivian Pfeiffer (pictured below right, above) joins from Christie’s as Phillips’ head of business development and deputy chairman for the Americas.

She will be based in New York and Miami.

Pfeiffer is joined by Cândida Sodré (right), previously a director in Christie’s Rio de Janeiro office.

At Phillips she is regional director in Brazil and will report into Pfeiffer.

These hires follow the appointment of Cecilia Laffan last year as regional director in Mexico.

Phillips has also announced that Yuka Yamaji is joining Genevieve Janvrin as co-head of the photographs department in Europe.

Both are based in London. Yamaji joined Phillips in 2014 as a senior specialist. She started the photographs department at Christie’s in 2000 in Los Angeles, and later became head of the photographs department in London.

Janvrin joined Phillips a year ago.
