Depicting a stable lad feeding three horses, the 22in (56cm) wide oil on canvas comes from a local private collection and is estimated at £1500-2000.
The second instalment of the large silver and vertu collection of Arthur Holder will go under the hammer at Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury on January 24. Items include 270 lots of wine labels, a small collection of vesta cases, 140 lots of flatware and a group of blackjacks and leather bottles.
Pictured here is a Victorian silver ‘castle top’ snuff box with a raised view of Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham, 1837. The 3in (7cm) long piece has a silver-gilt interior, engine-turned sides and a tartan base. Estimate £400-600.
This French coastal scene by the German painter Jelka Rosen (1868-1935) has been consigned from the property of a deceased estate to Semley Auctioneers’ sale in Shaftesbury, Dorset, on January 21.
The 22in x 3ft (56 x 91cm) oil on canvas is executed in the artist’s favoured pointillist technique and is guided in the sale at £1000-2000.
Rosen is best known as the wife of the English composer Frederick Delius, but she was well connected in the art world and included in her circle of friends Paul Gauguin, Henri Rousseau, Edvard Munch, Alphonse Mucha, John Lavery and Auguste Rodin.
She studied art at the Academie Colarossi in Paris in 1892 and exhibited at the Salon des Independants. In 1968, she was portrayed by the British actress Maureen Pryor in the Ken Russell film Song of Summer.
This 10in (25cm) long silver and enamel Dragestil (Dragonstyle) Viking longboat stars in John Nicholson’s January 28 sale in Fernhurst, Surrey.
It was made c.1900 by the Norwegian goldsmith Marius Hammer (1847-1927) and is stamped with his mark.
Estimate £800-1500.
