The mart is also home to this theatre, which, on its website, describes itself as the world’s only theatre in a working cattle auction “which sells cows and sheep through the week and is then transformed into a 300-seat venue offering professional theatre including stand-up”. The theatre owns Art in the Pen, which this year is on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13.
The theatre’s current artistic director, Andy Lynan, took on the event in 2014 and launched a second Art in the Penat Thirsk Auction Mart in 2016.
