Probably the most eye-catching item in the category at Cambridge was this piece of Victorian electroplate, below. The 19½in (50cm) cigar lighter dragon with a body made in antelope horn, was pitched at £150-200 but went to the trade at £1600 (plus 22.5% buyer’s premium).

At that price it outsold a solid silver cigar lighter by Gorham of Providence, Rhode Island, which doubled the mid-estimate in sellng to a collector at £320.
