The auction house says the February 16 sale in New Bond Street explores themes “from the beauty of desire to representations of the male nude, to the carnal act itself, stripped of metaphor”.

A cross-section of pieces are for sale including 19th century furniture, design, fine art, photography and contemporary sculpture.

A stand-out lot is Jacques Loysel’s (1867-1925) c.1896 white marble sculpture, La Grande Névrose, shown here. Ostensibly depicting the theme of hysteria, the 14in x 3ft 4in (36cm x 1m) high female nude was considered his masterpiece and remained in the sculptor’s atelier until his death. It is estimated at £120,000-180,000.
