The reverse is decorated with the coat of arms of Alexander I of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, who ordered the watches to be made, while the dial includes the name of the retailer, Milan T Stefanovich of Belgrade.

There is a move towards vintage watches in original rather than restored condition and this example – with its discoloured silvered dial and missing a subsidiary hand – certainly fitted the bill. Estimated at £400-600, it sold at £2800. Had the dial been in better condition, it would have undoubtedly made more.
