It has been brought back to this impressive site in the Derbyshire Dales, with its fine Georgian architecture, antiques shops and galleries on Sunday, September 10, by The Ashbourne Malthouse Preservation Trust.
The market will be opened by local auctioneer Charles Hanson, of Hansons, Etwall, and a section of Church Street will be closed for what is hoped will be 80 stalls.
The seven antique shops in that stretch will be open on the day and are also stalling out.
A vintage fashion parade, other markets and a classic car display are among the attractions.
The trust’s initiative is to raise funds for the restoration of a late 18th century malthouse in the town built by entrepreneur Thomas Hemsworth, who housed his business here, establishing a complete production process, from growing barley to selling beer.
Of seven malthouses in Ashbourne, this is the only one still standing.
On Sunday, September 10 – one of the four Heritage Open Days held annually that month across the country – talks and displays will take place in the courtyard in front of the malthouse.
