That centre has been sold and is set to become a bike showroom and workshop, but, staying in Yorkshire, Gerrard already has space in Bridlington at the Georgian Rooms. This is an antiques centre which he says has been an excellent outlet for him.

“When the Georgian Rooms’ owner Sue Tobias opened No49 Antiques & Retro in the town, this gave me an opportunity to promote the vintage Hornby, Chad Valley and Brimtoy clockwork locos I sell,” says Gerrard.

A nice, working example of a Hornby locomotive and tender would be around £50-£60, carriages £15-£25 and a set in original box £85. Original Bridlington 1950s framed railway handbills are £15.

Gerrard also now has a ground-floor presence in Red House Antiques, close to York Minster.

“Here I will specialise in railway lamps, silver plate, LNER and NER railway items. A framed NER item can be bought for as little as £15 and lamps start at £40 and an LNER cap at £52.”

He already has space at Hemswell Antique Centres in Gainsborough in Lincolnshire.

“Success there too means additional space, which enables me to display and sell a range of railway cast-iron signs, boundary posts, and carriage prints. Prices on nicely framed original carriage prints, dating from the late 1940s-50s, start at £45.”
