Brian Martin, spokesman and antiquarian book dealer at the business in Elstead, near Godalming in Surrey, said: “There are no other antiques shops within five miles of the village. The centre’s closure is causing great dismay among local people and customers who have been buying here for many years.
“This is also a sad day for the 30 stallholders, some of whom have been here for two decades. Some will continue to trade online and at other centres such as Christique Antique Centre in Dorking, from where I will also be dealing in antiquarian books including on field sports.”
Until the Honeypot closure on Monday, August 28, there will be a closing-down sale with stock and shop fittings for sale at generous discounts, mostly between 10-30% but higher on selected items.
Martin said: “The Honeypot’s general stock has always been wide-ranging, with everything from silver and porcelain to textiles, lighting, old tools, toys, cameras, pictures, postcards and period, country and pine furniture, mostly from very modest sums to about £1000.
“The centre would like to thank the many customers and trade who have supported them for so long.”
Waverley Borough Council granted full planning permission in March 2015 for a scheme comprising a smaller retail shop unit, two flats and three cottages.
