Tiffany jewels are particularly rare, so the appearance of multiple examples at Sotheby’s New York on April 26 is unusual. Many of the 13 lots come from an American private collection, some of them forming part of the 2009 exhibition Louis Comfort Tiffany: Nature by Design held at the Shelburne Museum, Vermont.

A ‘beetle’ necklace c.1910 is one that alludes to Tiffany’s work as a glassmaker. The two-row necklace is composed of 24 favrile glass scarabs spaced by gold beadwork columns.

As well as the signature Tiffany & Co, it carries French import marks. Consigned from a private collection in Paris, the estimate is $50,000-70,000.
