Following increasing demand for model vehicles too, Meccano Dinky Toys were advertised for the first time in the April 1934 edition of the Meccano Magazine. By 1935 Meccano claimed there were 200 varieties to choose from.

A pair of scarce, pre-war 28 Series Dinky vans feature in Tennants’ sale of Toys, Models & Collectables on April 5 in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.

The 28M 1st Type Wakefield Castrol Motor Oil van is estimated at £800-1200, while a 28F 1st Type Palethorpes Royal Cambridge van is guided at £400-600. Both are described as in ‘very good’ condition.

Other diecast highlights include a Dinky Gift Set No 4 Racing Cars, and a Shackleton David Brown Trackmaster 30 Caterpillar Tractor, both guided as well at £400-600.

Models also feature in Gardiner Houlgate’s Collection of Toys sale on March 31. Among the 100-plus lots on offer in Corsham, Wiltshire, are a number of Corgi Chipperfield’s Circus vehicles and Dinky BBC TV vans.

Transport-related sets and railway items will also take centre stage at Cottees’ next collectable toy sale on April 6-7.
