Suffolk auction house Bishop & Miller will introduce a Gentleman's Library auction at its Stowmarket saleroom next month.

It will feature a selection of ethnographical items, early photographs, maps and books as well as travel and exploration objects of interest.

The first sale will be held on September 5.

Oliver Miller, managing director and auctioneer at Bishop & Miller, said: "We have been busily compiling a vast array of interesting collectables for some time now, many of which have some really enticing stories and provenance.”

Among the lots in the first sale is a rare John Speed map of the world with an estimate of £3000-5000.

Book dealership Harrison-Hiett joint owner Marcia Harrison has been elected an associate member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association (ABA). Formerly based in Dorset, in April 2017 the company relocated to The Netherlands. Husband and business partner Marc Harrison is also an associate member of the ABA and a former chairman of the PBFA. They co-manage the PBFA London Antiquarian Book Fair.

Shropshire motor restoration company Classic Motor Cars is to hold its first auction. In partnership with Loveridge Agents and Auctioneers, it will hold the sale in Bridgnorth, Shropshire on October 5-6.

Shropshire motor restoration company Classic Motor Cars is to hold its first auction.

In partnership with Loveridge Agents and Auctioneers, it will host the sale at its Bridgnorth, Shropshire premises on October 5-6.

Nigel Woodward, managing director of Classic Motor Cars, said: “This will be the first auction that we have ever held and will feature significant private collections of automobilia. Two private motoring libraries will feature as well as other collectable items.”

No seller’s commission will be charged and buyer’s premium is 15%.

The Stanley Gibbons Group focuses on its stamp business Stanley Gibbons, coin and medal dealer Baldwin’s and auction joint venture, Baldwin’s of St James’s.

The Stanley Gibbons Group has promoted Anthony Gee, currently its interim chief financial officer (CFO), as its permanent CFO. Gee joined the company in 2012.

Group CEO Graham Shircore said: “I am very much looking forward to continuing to work closely with Anthony as we make further progress in… delivering our turnaround plans.”

The company has been restructuring since May 2016 with a focus on reducing its debts. The group has sold a number of subsidiaries including its stake in art fair Masterpiece London, auction houses Dreweatts, Bloomsbury and dealership Mallett.

It is now focused on its stamp business Stanley Gibbons, coin and medal dealer Baldwin’s and auction joint venture Baldwin’s of St James’s.
