Bloomsbury Auctions
Dreweatts’ sister firm Bloomsbury Auctions will increase the number of sales at its London office at 16-17 Pall Mall.
Its biannual western manuscripts auction, in July and December, will continue but in addition to this it will hold a separate biannual Islamic rare books and manuscripts auction around the time of the Islamic weeks in London (held biannually in April and October). Bloomsbury also plans to introduce a series of single-owner sales and the next will be its Modern First Editions sale on March 28 which is the first part of a collection from a British vendor. The second half from this owner will follow in the winter.
Dreweatts of Newbury was sold by stamp and coin specialist Stanley Gibbons Group to art consultancy and valuation firm Gurr Johns in 2017 and the Bloomsbury brand name was also bought as part of the deal. Now Dreweatts is expanding the book auction brand which returned to holding sales under its own name last year.
Bellmans
Bellmans Sussex is to hold its first studio pottery auction on April 4. With more than 100 lots, artists featured include Derek Davis, Claire Sutcliffe, Douglas Zadek, Seth Cardew and Michael O’Brien.
Highlights will include Divers (1989) by Davis (1926-2008). The 16 x 20in (40 x 50cm) porcelain is estimated at £1200-1400.
McTear’s

In Scotland, McTear’s is holding its inaugural Sporting Medals & Trophies on April 26. It will include medals and trophies awarded for professional and amateur football as well as for sports including golf, tennis, rugby, cricket and curling.
Highlights at the first sale will include a Scottish Football League Championship gold medal that was awarded to Rangers midfielder Joe Hendry for the 1910-11 season. Hendry made his Rangers debut in April 1910 and he stayed with the club for eight years, where he played 147 times and scored seven goals. The medal has been consigned by the player’s grandchildren and is estimated at £2000-3000.

Staffordshire’s Richard Winterton Auctioneers has announced two partnerships with local charities in the cathedral city of Lichfield.
The auction house will exhibit artworks and objects in the grade II* listed St Mary’s church which reopened at the end of last year following a £1.4m renovation that allowed Lichfield Library to move into its ground floor. Free valuation events and special auctions are also planned.
A second tie-up is the sponsorship of the green room bar at the Lichfield Garrick theatre.
