What to See: Five art and antiques events in Wales this week

This 19th century traditional Welsh lady's hat is estimated at £70-100 in Rogers’ Jones Welsh Sale on October 20.

Rogers Jones & Co – Conwy

John Kyffin Williams is well represented at Rogers Jones’ Welsh Sale on October 20. This year is the centenary of the artist’s birth, marked by various celebrations including an exhibition at the National Library of Wales. He remains one of the country’s most sought-after artists and his art is joined in this auction by a selection of Nantgarw porcelain and works by other Welsh artists.

A selection of historic objects is also on offer including a 19^th century traditional Welsh lady’s hat trimmed with its original silk ribbon and what is believed to be brown beaver fur. It has an estimate of £70-100.

Carmarthen Flea Market

The next edition of the Carmarthen Flea Market takes place on October 21 at the Carmarthen Showground. Inside and outside stands are open to the public from 10am (7:30am for the trade) and draws enthusiasts and collectors from all over the UK. Find a range of decorative and collectable items here as well as traditional antiques and furniture.

Peter Francis – Carmarthen

Peter Francis’ October 17 Antiques and Collectables auction kicks off with a series of ceramic lots, including a 5in (13cm) high Moorcroft art pottery straight-sided vase or planter featuring tube-lined flowers on a graduated green ground. The signature WM is impressed with marks to the base and it is offered in good condition with an estimate of £80-100.

Continuity Fairs – Anglesey

The next Continuity Fair takes place in Anglesey from October 19-20.

Continuity Fairs runs two high-quality, stand-fitted antiques events in Anglesey annually, in May and October. The next edition runs from October 19-20. Usually the fair, which takes place at the Mona Showground, draws around 2000-3000 visitors per day and offers antiques, art, furniture and collectables from around £50-10,000.

The Welsh Quilt Centre – Lampeter

Although it’s not a selling exhibition, the Welsh Quilt Centre’s exhibition Nos Da/Goodnight is chance to see the accumulations of a single collector, Jen Jones, who started gathering Welsh quilts in the 1970s.

Nos Da is billed as the crème-de-la-crème of her personal collection and also recalls exhibitions staged at the centre during the past 10 years. It includes a range of historic quilts made from the 19^th to mid-20^th century, as well as modern examples such as those by Kaffe Fassett. The show runs until November 17.
