Measuring 6in (15cm), it sold for a premium-inclusive HK$500,000 (£45,330), a world record for this type of handbag.
The second-highest lot was from the Hermès ‘So Black’ collection which is now discontinued. Produced in 2010, it sold for a premium-inclusive HK$300,000 (£27,200).
Spink teamed up with Brand Connection Paris for its first auction of luxury handbags and accessories, held at Spink Hong Kong Galleries in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong Island.
The April 18 sale comprised more than 100 handbags from brands such as Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton and estimates ranged from HK$5000-500,000. The prmeium-inclusive auction total was HK$8.15m (£742,676). Buyer's premium is 25%.
Desired designs
Many luxury brands, such as Hermès, operate waiting lists for desired handbag designs, causing the demand for second-hand items to surge.
The auction market for second-hand luxury handbags is a growing sector among auction houses such as Christie’s and Heritage, and Asia, particularly Hong Kong, is a major focus.
Fellows, Aston's Auctioneers and Sworders are among the UK regional auction houses to have taken advantage of this market.
Spink will follow this with a second sale in the autumn and hopes to hold three handbag auctions next year. In the longer term it may consider holding a handbag sale in the UK.
