Tang, who died in August last year, rubbed shoulders with the great and the good at A-list parties and was known as a bon vivant.
He founded his fashion brand Shanghai Tang in 1994, created private clubs and restaurants around the world including China Tang at the Dorchester, and was knighted in 2008 for his philanthropic work.
Following his death, Christie’s will hold the sale of the Collection of Sir David and Lady Tang during its London Interiors sale on January 31.
In the auction catalogue, a number of high-profile friends of Tang are quoted. The Earl of Snowdon said: “A dear friend and generous host - David was a tastemaker with an extraordinary eye for detail. He had a confidence in assembling exquisite works of art from all over the world to create a unified and intriguing whole. He opened the eyes of others – introducing his friends to the auction world – which always gave him so much pleasure.”
Lots include a piano, paintings and designer luggage.
The sale will also contain items from Bywell Hall, Northumberland, and from Pimlico Road dealer Howe London.
