Meeten reported the theft from his home near Exeter, Devon, to the police and is hoping a member of the silver trade may be offered the box and help trace it.

The piece, which won jewellery design competition The Saul Bell Award in 2011, was made using mokume-gane, the Japanese metalworking technique.

It has a full hallmark, London makers mark WVM and an IPG (Institute Of Professional Goldsmiths) hallmark.

Meeten asks anyone with information to contact the police quoting crime reference number CR/072259 /18.
