The company says that the new structure is aimed at providing best price not inflated by sellers’ commission.

“This change comes as a response to overwhelming feedback from our dealers and clients, typically interior designers, who want to work with an online marketplace that operates in a way that’s more transparent and mutually beneficial than our competition such as 1st Dibs,” says founder Tanya Southworth.

Instead, there is now a monthly subscription fee for dealers, which is currently around £200 per month for 12 months for a standard membership and £290 per month for six months for a premium membership.

Previously, dealers traded anonymously, but this system has been altered also. Now every listing features dealer contact information, links to their Kairos storefronts, a direct link to the dealer’s website and an un-monitored communication form.

Kairos 2.0 is live online from August 1.
