The fire took hold at the saleroom of Charles Phillips & Sons in Wallyford Toll on June 9 and firefighters battled throughout the afternoon. The Edinburgh Evening News reported it was extinguished by 4.30pm.

Charles Phillips & Sons was founded in 1987 but it recently announced a company restructure.

A statement on its website said: “Due to a recent company restructure we will no longer be able to receive any future consignments for auction.

“We will still be engaged in the placement of trade consignments, valuations, containerisation and shipping.

It said it will work with Charlie Williams Auctioneer to sell its inventory.

In March this year a fire destroyed the saleroom building of Iain M Smith Auctioneers & Valuers in Perth.
