The Bristol collector who decided to sell the Victorian 18ct gold ring, set with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and rubies, was brought to the auction by the Flog It! team.

The ring is marked Garrard & Co and inscribed 'From Prince Arthur 1868'. Possibly it is from Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, the seventh of the nine children of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. But its provenance has not be detailed.

The ring, filmed for an edition of Flog It! which will be screened later this year, sold to an online bidder for £2800, above its £200-£300 estimate.

At the same February 2 sale at Bristol Auction Rooms a single owner collection of Huntley & Palmers biscuit tins sold for a total of £900. The 30 lots of 'The Art of the Tin' went to a variety of bidders at the Ashton saleroom.
