Wartski director and Fabergé expert Geoffrey Munn was presented with a Fabergé flower ornament which he believed could be valued at £1m.
He was thrilled to have been able to give the valuation and, speaking to ATG after the filming, said: “I’m very spoilt and I’m very lucky.”
It is thought there have been two other £1m valuations on the show previously – a model of Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North and the version of the FA Cup that was presented between 1911 and 1992.
The Fabergé flower is the first £1m valuation item to be brought in by a member of the public.
The Antiques Roadshow prefers to keep valuations such as this secret until the weekend of the broadcast of the particular episode. However, an eagle-eyed member of the public who witnessed the valuation from the crowd spoke to a local newspaper.
Executive producer Simon Shaw said: “This is one of the most significant jewellery finds in Antiques Roadshow history.
“We don’t want to spoil the surprise so you will have to wait until the show is broadcast in the Autumn.”
The programme team is currently filming its 40th anniversary series which will be aired later this year.
