Jan Prasens
Sotheby’s has promoted Jan Prasens to become managing director of its Europe division. Prasens was previously running Sotheby’s Financial Services from New York.

Prasens, who has been based in New York running Sotheby’s Financial Services, will move to London and work across the group’s operations in Europe as well as the Middle East, Russia, India and Africa regions.

The auction firm’s CEO Tad Smith said: “Over the course of his 20-year career at Sotheby’s, he has worked with nearly every single specialist department and built relationships with some of our most important clients, negotiating, along the way, some of the largest consignments in Sotheby’s history.”

Senior Management Team

Prasens will work with European chairmen Helena Newman and Oliver Barker in London as well as Mario Tavella in France and Philipp Wurttemberg in Germany. He will also work closely with international chairman Robin Woodhead, UK chairman Harry Dalmeny, Claudia Dwek in Italy, Caroline Lang in Switzerland, Mark Poltimore for Russia and Scandinavia, Edward Gibbs in the Middle East and India and Jean Fritts in Africa. 

The auction house is now searching for a replacement to lead its finance division but said until the post is filled Prasens will oversee the management of this part of the group.
