De Clercq, who has 20 years of experience in the art market, will work alongside Albertine Verlinde, the chairman of Sotheby's in the Netherlands, who has been with the company since 1979.
Verlinde said: “Sarah’s understanding of the art market, combined with her close engagement with the wider art community, both in the Netherlands and beyond, means that she has her finger very firmly on the pulse of the many developments and opportunities in our world.
“At the same time, she is a real academic – someone who has published widely and who continues to collaborate closely with museums and other academic institutions.”
Gamut of interests
De Clercq said: “While of course Old Masters are absolutely key to our past and our present, art forms from the other end of the historical spectrum are similarly important today, most notably those of Contemporary Art, Design, and Photography – all fields in which Dutch collectors are currently very active.
"Working hand-in-hand with Albertine, I hope to be able to provide for our clients opportunities and experiences that span the whole gamut of their interests, and that speak to our past as well as to an exciting future.”
