During Auctioneers Question Time, questions ranged from: “what proportion of CITES-protected material in an object renders that object subject to CITES in the EU?” to queries around which authorities’ are recognised by CITES administrators for decisions on materials such as rosewood

Networking sessions allowed delegates to catch up with former colleagues and make new contacts.

Held in etc.venues' new conference centre in County Hall, the irony of the seminar's Westminster location offering panoramic views of the Houses of Parliament  was not lost on delegates as they were urged to lobby their MPs.

Gavin Megaw, director of Hanover PR and a specialist in reputation management, called on delegates to “get on the front foot” to manage the industry’s image with policy makers and the public.

Delegates welcomed Gavin's advice for the industry to support a conservation charity and for individual auction houses and dealers to promote their position on endangered species more publicly on websites.
