The pair of Regency period cut glass and ormolu lustres were stolen from T G Wilkinson Antiques in Petworth, West Sussex on Monday January 23.

Dated to around 1820, the lustres are 27cms (11 in) tall with oval bases and deep cutting in a strawberry pattern.

Wilkinson said he believes they were stolen at around 3.15pm “by a tall middle aged white male with close cropped grey hair”.

He added: “This was a classic case of shop lifting, taking the opportunity provided by the distraction of another genuine customer who was occupying my assistant’s attention.”

He said West Sussex police have been notified of the theft and the crime reference number is 47170011240.
