The annual Hallett Independent Acquisitions Award gives one UK museum or institution the chance to add to its holdings from the London Original Print Fair.
This year’s winner was picked from a shortlist of five.
“It was a varied shortlist with a wide range of interests from Old Master prints to contemporary portfolios,” said Christopher Le Brun, competition judge and president of the Royal Academy of Arts where the fair is held.
The initiative aims to foster relationships between museums, dealers and contemporary printmakers. The Hatton Gallery, which is the art gallery of Newcastle University, is undergoing a £3.5m Heritage Lottery Fund refurbishment and is set to reopen in October. The acquisition, which the gallery has yet to select, is earmarked to appear in a 2018 exhibition.
The London Original Print Fair continues until May 5.
