More than 165 items of sporting memorabilia from the past 100 years will be sold by Julien’s Auctions in its Icons and Idols: Sports sale on November 3 in Los Angeles, California.

Boxing
Among the top priced lots in the auction, with an estimate of £15,000-20,000, is a white robe worn by Muhammed Ali while training for his third fight with Ken Norton. Ali stayed with fight promoter Harold Conrad in the run up to the event and gave the training robe to Conrad which he later passed to his son. Provenance includes a label inside which states it was “Made Exclusively for Muhammad Ali” by Everlast.
A pair of black Everlast shorts worn by Ali during training sessions for the final fight of his professional career against Trevor Berbick on December 11, 1981, is also on offer at Julien’s. Signed by Ali, the shorts are also accompanied by certificates of authenticity from various sources and carry an estimate of $4000-6000
Other boxing highlights in the sale include Sammy Stein’s 1938 ‘Champion of the World’ belt (estimate $6000-8000), a 1971 fight poster featuring Joe Frazier vs Ali (estimate $3000-5000), a robe worn by Evander Holyfield (estimate $2000-4000), an oil painting of Mike Tyson in action (estimate $1000-2000) and various signed gloves by Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.
Football
One of two canvasses being sold together, this image of Pelé with Ali was taken at Pelé’s final professional football game with the New York Cosmos on October 1, 1977. The canvas measures 29 x 24in (73 x 61cm) and is signed by Pelé “Edson = Pelé”. The signature has been fully authenticated. The other canvas in the pair shows the Brazilian and Italian football teams ahead of the FIFA World Cup final on June 21, 1970. Measuring 28 x 20in (71 x 51cm), together the canvasses are estimated at $1000-2000.
Football legend George Best’s 1968 Manchester United jersey (estimate $600-800), Thierry Henry’s 2004 match-worn Arsenal jersey (estimate $800-1200) and Zinedine Zidane’s 2001 France vs Algeria match-worn jersey (estimate $5000-7000) are all on offer as is a large collection of shirts worn by Scottish greats from 1972-2015 including Jimmy Johnstone, Paul McStay and Kenny Dalglish.
Among the many FIFA trophies and medals in the sale is lot 59, the 1994 FIFA World Cup Gold Winner’s Medal awarded to one of the Brazilian winners with an estimate of $45,000-55,000.
Also of note is the 1950 FIFA World Cup Jules Rimet trophy given to Anibal Paz, goalkeeper of winners Uruguay. Measuring 11.5in (30cm) tall, it carries a $4000-6000 estimate.
The best of the rest
Memorabilia from Rubens Barrichello, Mark Webber, Ayrton Senna, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg all feature in the motorsport section of the sale while taking top estimate (£10,000-20,000) among the Olympic lots is fencer Gaston Salmon’s 1912 Stockholm Olympics Gold Winners Medal with plaque.
Medals from the 1900 Paris, 1920 Antwerp, 1936 Berlin, 1948 St Moritz and 1972 Munich Olympics are offered alongside a torch used in the 2012 London Olympics which comes with a $4000-6000 estimate.
