It is thought she will take gardening leave this year before starting work in New York from 2018.

At Christie's her most recent role was US head of the Impressionist and Modern department. She took control of Christie’s New York evening sale in 2012.

Her move is the latest departure at Christie's and follows Christie’s former Americas president Marc Porter taking a new role as chairman of Sotheby's Fine Art division.

The division was created last year and is jointly chaired by Porter as well as Amy Cappellazzo and Allan Schwartzman who became part of Sotheby’s when their firm Art Agency, Partners was purchased for $50m.
