The 30 year-old, who had worked for Stroud Auction Rooms, died in Amsterdam earlier this year.

His mother has decided to sell his lifetime collection of works in his memory at a special sale on November 9.

Stroud Auction Rooms’ Lyn Bowkett said: “It is a very sad time for us as we are going through all his things and all the memories.”

She said Cole had begun collecting at 18 and had worked with the firm for five years. She added: “He was self-taught and was amazingly good at it.”

Cole disappeared on a night out in Amsterdam in January and his body was discovered by Dutch police in the Herengracht canal on February 1. His death is being investigated by police.

His collection comprises more than 200 lots and includes this Chinese vase.

This Chinese vase was part of the collection of the late Asian art valuer Richard Cole. It will be sold at Stroud Auction Rooms next month.

The sale of his collection is part of Stroud’s larger two day auction on November 9-10 including Asian art, militaria, taxidermy, motoring, toys and textiles.
