But four specialist dealers - Laurent Dodier, Bruno Frey, Jacques Lebrat and Anthony JP Meyer - had the idea of wandering off the beaten track of tribal art shows to "get back to the basics of sharing ideas and their love of art in a convivial environment… away from established cultural centres".

The result is the Bourgogne Tribal Art Show, organised by Delvoyeurs, whose first staging will take place this spring in Besanceuil, Saône-et-Loire, from May 26-29.

Around 20 dealers from London, Brussels, Paris and Amsterdam will be taking part, bringing a mix of artefacts from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.

The fair will be held in the gallery of Contemporary art dealer and tribal art collector Bruno Mory and will provide the opportunity for open exhibition spaces to be shared between two or three exhibitors.
