They had been hotly tipped pre-tournament to rival reigning champions Sotheby’s, but unfortunately the auctioneers had to pull out at the last minute.

The Capital lads remained undefeated through the entire tournament and beat Borro (also making their competition debut) 4-0 in the final.

Plate Cup winners were Bonhams, who have been keen supporters of the competition for five years. They beat auctioneers Phillips 1-0 at this tournament held on September 3 at the Goals five-a-side centre in Isleworth, west London.

Fifteen teams attended. The cup was presented by Lennox Cato, who founded the initiative 14 years ago. This is the fifth year that the event has been held as a five-a-side format, enabling more players from the industry to take part.

Thanks to the committee: Addison Gelpey (Bath Auctioneers), Ed Flaxman (Flaxman Jewellery), Josh Goddard (Breast Cancer Haven), Lawrence Bright (UK Auctioneers) and Marika Clemow (ATG Media). And thanks also to the principal sponsors: Lucas Rarities, Sotheby’s, Trinity House Galleries and ATG Media.

Most importantly, by the end of the evening, sponsorship, players’ fees and a well-supported charity auction had brought in a total of £9000 for the Breast Cancer Haven charity. Anyone wishing to make post-match donations to Breast Cancer Haven should contact Josh Goddard, community fundraising executive, tel: 020 7384 0006
