Skrebowski was stabbed in a random attack in Abingdon last December. With support from Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood, Alkan met minister Karen Bradley last month to discuss the issue and aims to reach 100,000 signatures in total.

In the petition, she writes: “Justin went to Poundland in Abingdon to buy some balloons for our small children. He was attacked at random by a man who grabbed a knife from the shelves in the shop.”

She adds: “It's hard to believe that it was that easy to pick up a knife. That's why I've started this petition to urge retailers to review how knives are displayed.”

Meanwhile, the man charged with stabbing Skrebowski to death has had his hearing delayed.

Trevor Joyce, 36, of Abingdon was due to enter a plea at Oxford Crown Court on March 3 but a new date of May 2 has been set after psychiatric reports were yet to be completed.
