The firm, established in 1928 and a fixture in Mount Street for many years, will now be based solely in Paris where they opened in the rue de Varenne in 2004. They share a building with the long-established Galerie Etienne Lévy with whom they have collaborated for many years.

Sotheby’s sale on March 8 will feature both stock from the London premises (Pelham have been trading by appointment only from Berkeley Square) plus acquisitions made by two generations of the Rubin family.

They include objects from Alan Rubin’s Queen Anne house in London, acquired by his father and uncle in the inter-war years.

Commenting on the auction, Alan Rubin said: “This sale marks a new chapter for Pelham Galleries which will now be run from our Paris gallery. The sale includes a number of pieces never previously offered to the public, some acquired by my family more than 60 years ago.”
