For the first time in 228 years, a female auctioneer has taken to the rostrum at Mallams in Oxford.

Alicia Rogers, who joined the venerable firm as a silver and work of art specialist in August following the closure of Bonhams’ Oxford saleroom, sold more than 100 lots of Mallams’ third annual vintage fashion sale on February 24.

Rogers was accompanied on the rostrum by jewellery specialist Louise Dennis who also joined from Bonhams in August.

The word at Mallams is that she is next to smash through the glass ceiling.
