He said: “Working with the arts events team at the lido, we originally put the idea together on the back of a sheet of A4 and the plan was to show the relationship between architecture and 20th century design furniture and to put on a selling fair in an imaginative space.”

Otunia added: “Promoting a fair for people who would not necessarily go to such a thing was a really hard sell in the early days. But it got better and better and it’s now a firm date for many.”

Dealers standing at the festival on Saturday and Sunday, April 30-May 1, include Retro Barn, Da Silva Interiors and Sarah Potter Furniture.

Known to locals as ‘the Brixton beach’, Brockwell Lido is certainly an imaginative space. The Grade II-listed Art Deco building was built in 1937, closed in 1990, but reopened four years later.

It is now a big success story with a gym, a spa and an award-winning café by the outdoor pool.
