Roberts has spent 40 years putting together his collection of film, royalty, sport and travel memorabilia.

“The time has finally arrived to share my collection with the world,” Roberts said. “I hope my insatiable appetite for the curious, the famous and the infamous will inspire a new generation of custodians.”

It is the first of two auctions this year to include elements of Roberts’ collection. A November sale at Julien’s Auction in Beverley Hills is comprised entirely of Roberts’ extensive assortment of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia.

Roberts said earlier this year that money raised from the sales would go to charity.

Christie’s Out of the Ordinary sale is an annual roundup of unique and unusual items. This year the sale includes more than 90 lots.

The auction takes place at Christie’s South Kensington on September 14.
