The cabinets were sold by Sotheby's in July 2015 for £1.05m plus premium and will be exported unless a buyer can be found to match the selling price of £1,265,000 (plus VAT of £43,000 on the buyer's premium).

Made in Rome c.1625, the cabinets are thought to have been commissioned by the noble Borghese family.

They were brought to Britain by one of the leading collectors of the day, the 4th Earl of Carlisle, for Castle Howard, Yorkshire.

The cabinets now sit on matching neoclassical stands made in England c.1800.
