Many of the best decisions in life are taken over a glass or two of wine and so it was with Toby Lorford and Lesley Ferguson of Lorfords Antiques in Tetbury who have opened an antiques hub in a vast old RAF hangar nearby.
The initial idea was to offer dealers storage and photographic facilities but, with the second glass, this idea moved seamlessly forward into an antiques space where dealers could showcase their stock in an unusual setting close to Tetbury.
So, 19 well-known antiques and decorative dealers from the UK and Europe are now ensconced in Lorfords, with more than 11,000 sq ft of display space to spread out in under an immense corrugated iron roof in a now transformed unit at RAF Babdown near Tetbury.
This is a theatrically striking setting for the antiques and decorative pieces on sale, including furniture on a grand and small scale, industrial lighting, taxidermy, textiles, carpets, statuary, metalwork and cabinets of curiosities. The dealers here include Arabesque Antiques, Arcadia Antiques, Laurence Oliver Lighting and Andrew Bewick Antiques.
"We know that this one-stop-shop of sourcing antiques will be welcomed by both the interior decorating trade and private collectors," said Lesley. "We've been very encouraged by the commitment shown by the participating dealers."
Lorfords at Babdown is at Unit 2, Babdown Airfield, near Tetbury. Open six days a week. Telephone 01666 503 970 for more information. Two spaces left.
