The fielded panel doors to this 15in (38cm) high mahogany collector's cabinet reveal six oak lined drawers. The stand, profusely carved with face masks and hairy paw feet, suggests it may well be Irish.

Estimated at £400-600 at the sale on July 25, it sold at £6500.

From the same local source, a later 18th century Anglo-Chinese rosewood miniature bureau, with a carved and pierced three-quarter gallery, 12½in (31cm) wide, took £2900.

The cabinet was bought by the London trade and the bureau by the Home Counties trade.

The buyer's premium was 18%.
