The sale, which took place on June 20, saw items from such iconic films and TV series as Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr Who, Space 1999 and Thunderbirds offered without reserve.

The collection had been put together using money that the 55-year-old woman from West Yorkshire had admitted stealing from her employer between 2005 and 2012.

Her 48-year-old husband also pleaded guilty to laundering nearly £1m of the money, which was also used to buy a house, cars and holidays.

Bidders hailed from America, Canada, Europe, locally and beyond, said the auctioneers, as they offered iconic material that even included Scotty's jacket from Star Trek and a replica Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.
